Sheer Force Engineering (SFE) was born in 2011. Since then, it has evolved into an online Structural Engineering blog reaching all corners of the globe to the current business it is today; delivering projects of scale in the order of tens of millions of dollars. Sheer Force Engineering website re-launch and formal re-branding. Sheer Force Engineering works with key clients on projects of scale in the order of tens of millions of dollars.
Sheer Force Engineering becomes a private company (Pty. Ltd.) allowing for multi-person ownership, ensuring that Senior staff within our business can enjoy part ownership. This allows us to ensure that key business owners of SFE are involved in the delivery of our clients’ projects.
The Sheer Force Engineering blog is established and begins to gain exposure across the globe. Articles cover technical engineering topics as well as topics of interest to asset owners, architects, and more. The blog would eventually go on to receive an average of 17,000+ page views per month. You can take a look at our BLOG which is still as popular as ever and being expanded even today via THIS link.

Sheer Force Engineering was born and managed by our founding director Quentin Suckling.
From a very young age, Quentin has had an inquisitive mind and has been fascinated with how things work. Much to the dismay of his parents, growing up, he would pull apart his brand-new toys to discover what made them move, bounce, and light up.
Moving into his early professional career, Quentin continued this inquisitive nature. However, instead of pulling things apart, he would achieve the same outcome by asking a simple question…
“Why?”…
Armed with this simple but effective word, Quentin satisfied his thirst for knowledge and learning through mentorship from a diverse range of engineers across multiple Tier 1 Structural Engineering firms.
Quentin quickly advanced through all aspects of technical delivery which included specialised sub-disciplines; Forensic Engineering, Existing Building Assessment, Heritage Structures, Seismic Engineering, and high-rise construction.
Quentin would later continue to manage billion-dollar multi-discipline public sector projects. The simple but effective word would also serve him well on these engagements and allow him to become an effective well-rounded Engineer across multiple disciplines.
It is the very same approach we use today to find value and efficiency for our client’s projects:
– Why does this mechanical duct need to reticulate in this direction?
– Why can’t this sub-station be moved to an alternate location?
– Why can’t this car park arrangement be altered in this manner?
His genuine love for Structural Engineering often blurs the line between “work” and “play”. A testament to this is how Quentin chose to spend his downtime during the harsh Melbourne COVID-19 lockdowns. While most were adopting new hobbies during this period such as baking, sewing, and music, Quentin saw a unique opportunity to start a Structural Engineering Blog in September 2021. Through this period, Quentin would pen more than 50 Structural Engineering-related articles simply for the love of Engineering. The Blog is still as popular as ever today and receives an average of 17,000+ page views per month (you can view it at THIS link).
In the present day, Quentin is our founding director and finds the most enjoyment in challenging projects that test the “art” of Structural Engineering. With his early inquisitive nature as a child, it’s no wonder one of our key focus sectors is Demolition.
To this day, Quentin continues to contribute to our Blog and continues to ask “Why?…”
