Melbourne remains our head office; the Sydney office at Suite 302, Level 3, 50 York Street gives our clients in New South Wales the same engineers, the same standards and the same specialisation in buildings that already exist.
Nothing about our approach changes with the postcode. We still attend site, still read the structure before we read the drawings, and still give a considered position rather than a hedge.
Sydney's building stock is unusually layered. Colonial sandstone sits beside Federation brickwork, mid-century concrete frames and 1990s apartment construction, often on the same street and sometimes within the same building. Each era carries its own structural assumptions, materials and failure modes.
That layering is precisely the work we do. Our practice was built on structures already standing: understanding how they were made, how they have aged, and how far they can reasonably be pushed before a new use becomes uneconomic or unsafe.
From the Sydney office we service Greater Sydney, Parramatta and Western Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle and the Illawarra, and we travel for regional New South Wales projects where the building warrants it. Between our two offices we undertake projects Australia-wide.
We work within the National Construction Code and the relevant Australian Standards, and we are experienced in coordinating with heritage consultants, councils and certifiers where an approval depends on the structural argument being clear and well evidenced.
We start by listening to the building: a site attendance, measured observations, whatever documentation exists, and where necessary targeted testing — reinforcement scanning, concrete coring, material testing or timber grading through trusted specialists.
From there you receive a clear position: what the structure is doing, why, what your realistic options are, and what each option is likely to cost you in complexity and programme. We would rather tell you something is simpler than you feared, or harder than you hoped, than hand you a report that avoids the question.
